Changing of Guards Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung, Seoul

One of the most unique and interesting experiences you can have in Seoul is to witness the traditional Changing of Guards Ceremony at Gyeongbokgung Palace. This ceremony takes place at around 10am and you better be take your place at a good spot before the crowds fill the court.

First it will start with drumbeat and music; then you will see both sets of the guards (the relieving guard and the guard on duty), along with their chiefs. After the exchange, the last drumbeat will signal the exit of the relieving guard.

It’s a symbolic performance of tradition, full of colour and sound. The precise moments of the guards in their historical outfit, with modern Seoul at the backdrop takes you on a short transcendental trip back to Joseon Dynasty era.
